It is very important that before anyone adopts or buys a dog that they match the correct breed and or puppy to the correct owner. Take the time to read about the dog breeds you are most interested in and listen to what you read. For example, a Pit Bull Terrier and a Rottweiler are not good dog breeds for mild and meek pet owners. Another example, a Siberian Husky may not be suited for apartment living in Miami while the owner is unable to give the dog the exercise he requires. Some dogs are not tolerant of loud noises, load children etc.

The point is that there are dog breeds that are more suited for certain human personalities and environments than others. By taking the time and educating yourself before you commit to a canine the more likely your experience will be a good one.

With all dogs, never allow them to achieve dominance over you, your family or friends. Dogs are always testing their social ranking. So never allow them to challenge people in general, period. This is critical to curb aggressive behavior. Always maintain your dominance over your dog, not in a cruel manner, but in a strong manner. An example of this is when walking your dog, make him set patiently while getting the leash. Then make sure you are the first to the door, not the dog. While walking never allow your dog to get in front of you, always to your side or behind you. When you get home from your walk you are always the first through the door. Then again have your dog set patiently while you put away the leash. If your dog has done a good job then it is time to reward his good behavior.

Rewarding good behavior is a great tool when it comes to dog training. Positive reinforcement is critical to your dog's mental health. Always give praise and even a treat when your dog is doing a good job. They certainly enjoy petting and treat's and will soon learn what they need to do to get it.

The reverse is true when your dog has misbehaved. Do not reward him, do not praise him and a short confinement to the dog house is sure to get his attention. Never hit or mistreat them after all we don't want them to learn that from us do we. However always react to bad behavior with dominance and show your dog there are consequences. Never let this go or you and your dog will certainly have issues.

Remember when it comes to aggressive behavior with your dog, it is likely due to the quality of  dog training  or no training at all. It is paramount that the dog breeds personality matches the dog owners and the environment in which they live.
